Final Paper Office Hours Schedule (First Meetings)

Here is the schedule for our first meetings about your final papers. The purpose of this meeting is for us to discuss the topic you’ve chosen for your paper. You don’t need to know your thesis/main argument yet, but the meeting will be most productive if you come prepared with:

  1. A well-defined topic. In this context, “well-defined” means broad enough that you can write 10-12 pages on it, but focused enough that you can say something meaningful in that amount of space. You should also direct your thinking toward a topic on which you can make an argument.
  2. A preliminary sense of the sources available. Do some searching in the library catalogue (including research databases) to make sure you’ll be able to write on your chosen topic with the resources at hand. You don’t need to prepare a bibliography yet; just make sure your topic is viable from a research perspective.

We’ll also take some time in class during Week 10 to talk in detail about research and writing strategies.
